Benefits Of The Wim Hof Method

The Wim Hof Method is scientifically proven to benefit physical and mental health in many ways.

Reduced Stress & Anxiety

Anxiety disorders are the most common of mental disorders and will affect nearly 30% of adults at some point in their lives.

A 2018 study showed activation in the periaqueductal gray area during WHM practice. This is the control center for pain regulation. This region of the brain releases cannabinoids and opioids – chemicals associated with improved mood and reduced anxiety. In a survey, one of the most commonly reported benefits of the WHM is a reduction in anxiety. Both the breathing exercises and cold exposure are positive stressors that enable us to treat chronic stress immediately.

More Energy

Thousands of people from all over the world practice the WHM and report a significant boost in their energy levels and feel like a more balanced person.

During the breathing exercise we have an influx of adrenaline. With an increase of glucose and oxygen, mitochondria, the energy supplier of cells produces a molecule called adenosine triphosphate (ATP). ATP is responsible for all bodily activity. We can generate energy within minutes.

Stronger Immune System

It is possible for us to strengthen and harmonize our immune system.

The WHM method has been shown to suppress the innate immune response, cleaning up excess inflammation. This is incredibly promising for anyone suffering due to prolonged inflammation. We can also strengthen the adaptive immune system by producing white blood cells to protect the body against pathogens and unwelcome invaders.

Improved Mental Wellbeing

The Wim Hof Method helps you to reduce your stress levels and to create habits to improve mental health.

As well as being reported by the majority of people who regularly practice the method. In a brain scan during the WHM breathing exercise, the higher order cortical brain was active. This region of the brain is responsible for internal focus, creating a here and now state and interoception. This leads to a large reduction in ruminating and an increase in feelings of bliss and happiness.

Reduce Inflammation

Science shows there is also a relation between people with depression and inflammation; higher amounts of inflammation in the blood is found in depressed people.

One of the most potent scientific findings that made the WHM groundbreaking is the lowering of inflammation. A study showed a 50% decrease in pro-inflammatory markers and a 200% increase in anti-inflammatory markers. This is important because chronic inflammation is the reason for most western diseases.

Increased focus

You can experience a huge boost in concentration by practicing the Wim Hof Method.

Both the breathing exercises and cold have a tremendous effect at boosting our focus. This is the result of an increase in adrenaline, noradrenaline and dopamine and it feels great.
